How do I use DivX 6 with Showshifter (analogue only)?
- Download the latest version of DivX 6 from http://www.divx.com
- Download and install the interim release of Showshifter from http://www.showshifter.com/files/download/interim/
- Start Showshifter
- From the TV/Video page click on settings
- Click "Compression Settings"
- Click "Compression Profiles"
- Click the + button
- Change the profile name (to something like DivX 6)
- Select "ShowShifter AVI" in the "File Format" list
- Click on the hammer icon
in the "Video Settings" page
- Select "divx DivX (r) 6.1.1 Codec" from the "Compressor" list
- Click on the hammer icon
next to the "Compressor State" box
- Click on the + icon and give a name to the new state
- Click on the hammer icon
next to "Compressor's Dialog"
- Make sure "Bitrate Based" is selected
- Select a bit rate, you will have to experiment to find a bit rate that gives you the right balance of file size and quality. I find the 1400 kbit/s gives good quality at 320*240 resolution
- Click on the "Codec" tab
- Select an encoding mode, again you will have to experiment to find out what your pc can handle
- Turning on "Bidirectional coding" will increase quality but will decrease speed
- Click on the "Video" tab
- Make sure "Keep resolution is selected"
- "Noise Reduction" and "Psychovisual Enhancements" will improve quality but will make the codec slower
- "Interlace" should be set to "Progressive source" unless you are attempting to capture at full resolution
- "Quantization" should be set to "H.263"
- Click "Advanced"
- Make sure that "Disable the feedback window" is checked
- Click "OK" and "OK" again
- Click the tick button
- From the "Compressor State" box select the profile you just created
- From the "Capture Format" box select "YUY2"
- Select a resolution from the "Capture Size" box, "320 x 240" is a good setting unless you have a very powerful computer
- Click the tick button
- Click on the hammer icon
in the "Audio Settings" page
- Select your audio compressor and state, either No compression or Lame mp3 are the most reliable
- Click the tick button
- Click the tick button
- From the "Profile for Recording" box select your new profile
- Test and adjust settings if necessary
