It has recently been announced that Home Media Networks (the company who make Showshifter) have gone into liquidation. All is not lost however as Showshiftergroup are intending to try and buy the Showshifter source code so that our favourite PVR software can live on. LONDON 25 April 2005 - SkyNetGlobal Limited, dual-listed on ASX ('SKG') in Sydney and on AIM ('SKN') in London, has agreed to acquire Edinburgh-based Home Media Networks Ltd, a digital home entertainment software company for a consideration of £500,000. SkyNetGlobal will fund the acquisition by issuing 859,107 shares valued at 58.2 pence (A$1.43) per share which is equivalent to the average closing price on AIM for the five trading days prior to execution. A further 67,469 SKG shares are being issued in settlement of a £39,267 founder loan to Home Media Networks. It is SkyNetGlobal's first acquisition in the UK and is in line with its European growth strategy.

Development has been started on creating a set-top box solution which will utilize the Showshifter application by Home Media Networks. Cinevio announced today their intention to begin development on such a device.

A Cinevio company spokesperson explained this by saying, "The Showshifter application provides a very unique and robust environment, but a drawback has always been with the varying hardware and inherent instability of multiple hardware configurations. Our device will attempt to reduce the hardware, lower the entry price-point, and also do some exciting new features that will really make some heads turn."

"We've seen just few other complete solutions on the marketplace, and some really good hardware configurations, but we believe that our approach will provide the flexibility many of these other solutions will have a hard time maintaining. Specialized hardware is great for reducing production costs, but just think how many versions of the popular Windows Media format has released in the last year. Not to take this into consideration would be foolish. So there is a balance between specialized hardware and more common components, the trick is to find that sweet spot in between the two."

What you won't find are things like 'Showshifter Rocks' and Program 'X' stinks. Sorry, not here. Most Showshifter users enjoy the many options available out there, and we keep coming back to Showshifter. When you're done doing all the comparisons, all the configurations, and all the troubleshooting, only then would you understand the major draw to Showshifter. Simply put, it works.

It may not be the flashiest, it may not look the 'coolest'. But given all the possible hardware configurations, all the different combinations, pound for pound, you simply install Showshifter and it's pretty much ready to run out of the box.
